What is file management?
File management is the process of organizing, storing, naming, and deleting files. It is of crucial importance due to the user’s easiness and access of finding the documents or the files he/she needs.
Understanding how to work with files and folders the user can manage the information of his/her computer. As the user saves more and more documents in the computer maybe it would be beneficial to create new folders to organize them better.
File Management with Narrator
Using Narrator, which is a screen reader in Microsoft Windows, the user can perform various file management tasks with specific keyboard shortcuts.
Read Item or Text
Narrate current item à Caps Lock + M
Read from the current location à Caps Lock + M, followed by Down Arrow or Up Arrow

File Management with Magnifier
While Magnifier primarily focuses on enlarging the screen content, the user can still perform file management tasks alongside it. Here are some tips for file management with Magnifier:
Open File Explorer à Use the keyboard shortcut Windows + E to open File Explorer. Magnifier will automatically zoom in on the File Explorer window.
Navigation à Navigate through folders and files using the arrow keys or by clicking on items within the Magnified view.
Selecting Files à Select files and folders by clicking on them in the magnified view. The user can use a mouse or touchpad.
Copy, Cut, and Paste à To copy or cut files, right-click on them, choose “Copy” or “Cut,” and then navigate to the destination folder to paste them by right-clicking and selecting “Paste.”
Deleting Files à To delete files, right-click on them and select “Delete.” Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Renaming Files à Right-click on a file and select “Rename.” The user can then type the new name and press Enter to save it.
Creating New Folders à Right-click in the file list, go to “New,” and select “Folder” to create a new folder in the current directory.
Searching for Files à Use the search bar in File Explorer to find specific files or folders by typing the name or keyword the user is looking for.
Organizing Files à The user can move files by selecting them, right-clicking, and choosing “Cut,” then navigating to the destination folder and choosing “Paste.”
Changing View Options à In File Explorer, use the “View” tab to change the way files and folders are displayed, such as using details, tiles, or lists.
